Past State Events

Bryan Chipman, SMC

The annual DJR statewide initiation was held on Saturday, March 5th at the Salem Scottish Rite. DeMolay won the membership competition over the Job’s Daughters and Rainbow by initiating 12 new members. I’d like to welcome the new members and thank everyone who took part in the degrees – we had representation from almost every Chapter in the state! DeMolay also dominated at the talent show, with Matt and new member Will from Peninsula Chapter taking first, and Ricky Condon from Tioga placing second. The dance was a lot of fun. Thanks to the Grand Lodge Youth Committee for putting this event on, and to those DeMolay who helped clean up afterwards.

The Membership Class was held on April 9th at the Cottage Grove Lodge. Eighteen members of six chapters were present, and learned more about How to Sell DeMolay, How to Hold a Rush Party, How to Interview Candidates, and How to Get Names to Invite. It was a great time and I want to thank all those who took the time to attend and will try to make Oregon DeMolay soar higher in 2011.

Mom Emily Wheelbarger named State Sweetheart Director

From:  Dad Jim Lamb, Executive Officer
To:  All Oregon State Council Chapters, Advisors and Staff

Effective immediately, it is my pleasure to appoint Emily Wheelbarger to the Jurisdictional Staff and more specifically, the Operations Team, as our new Sweetheart Director.

Emily has been a part of the Oregon Masonic family for well over 20 years and has been actively involved in Oregon DeMolay as a chapter advisor and staff member from 1997-2009 and most recently she serves as the Mother Advisor of Hillsboro Assembly #24.

Emily is a majority member of Rainbow and Job’s Daughters and it was during this time that she not only served as a chapter sweetheart, but also elected State Sweetheart from 1991-1992.

In addition, to working with the Masonic youth of Oregon, Emily has also found time to become a Past Royal Matron, Acacia Court #22 as well as a Past Worthy Matron, Tualatin Chapter #31.

Prior to these Masonic leadership positions, Emily spent four years on active duty with US Army and another eight with the Army Reserves and Oregon National Guard.

At present, Emily is working towards completing her studies at Portland State University with the ultimate goal of becoming a Registered Nurse.

Given this combination of experiences, I feel Emily has the background necessary to recharge the Oregon DeMolay Sweetheart Program and provide the level of leadership to the young women and advisors that make this program viable.

Emily will be installed with the rest of the Jurisdictional Staff at Conclave 2011, but she will be making contact with the current Chapter Sweethearts and their advisors within the next week.

We initiated five new brothers at the class! I would like to thank everybody who came and performed a ritual part; the degrees went well!

The Grand Master’s Class was January 15th in Eugene.  I would like to thank everybody who had a part in the DeMolay degree; it was awesome! Our Grand Master, Ed Bousquet and his guests who were in attendance were impressed! Only upward and onward from here, right guys? Keep improving for DJR in March!
